It cheapens bisexuality into a convenient mechanic (and bisexuality is never discussed in any deep way in these game that use it like this), it's done at the detriment of gay and lesbian characters and nearly always feels to gamey and shallow.
Fallout new vegas romances plus#
Plus even outside the story, romances are done in the "All bi" mechanic which as a bi women I really dislike. You could easily just have the kid be adopted or have it been a sham marriage or so many other options that would still fit with the story but no, they didn't do that because they didn't care.

The depressing thing about this is that this is such an easy fix as well. Then we get to the shafting of gay and lesbian characters Because of this prologue and heavy focus on the story with little actual role playing in a role playing, you are forced into a loving hetro romance. Nate was the focus on the marketing for the game, Nate is the focus in the merchandise and as many pointed out, as the story goes on, it's very clear the story was written for Nate as default/canon protagonist. Then the character creation appears and again Nate is the first one we see, even when they first showed it off at E3 in 2015 they made it clear Nora was the optional choice (I have to cringe at Nora being called a "female" in that like a Ferengi): It's Nate who narrates, it's Nate who gets all the backstory (Nora gets one reference to being a lawyer that can be easily missed in the prologue if you didn't see the diploma), character development and the heavier focus on family the get pushes hard and it's Nate who gets to say the famous, "War, War never changes" line. With the first, let's face it, the story makes it clear that the Nora ISN'T the true main character, Nate is, even from the intro:

I've been playing Fallout 3 and New Vegas recently and decided to move onto Fallout 4, however even after nearly 6 years, I can't get over how the game feels like it was designed to give the shaft to women and gay and lesbian players.
